Wike’s faction loses as court clears PDP to hold elective National Convention, orders INEC oversight
An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, presided over by Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola, has cleared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to hold its Elective National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The judgment, delivered in Suit No. I/1336/2025 filed by Deputy National Organizing Secretary aspirant Folahan Malamo Adelabi, directs the PDP, its officials, and agents not to frustrate, truncate, or disrupt the convention’s guidelines, timetable, or scheduled activities.
Justice Akintola further ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy monitors and observers to the convention, ensuring full compliance with electoral laws and reinforcing the transparency and legitimacy of the exercise.
The court also directed Rt. Hon. Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), to proceed with all arrangements for the convention.
With this ruling, all legal barriers have been removed, allowing the NCOC, led by Governor Fintiri, to finalize preparations for the participation of over 3,000 delegates, including statutory delegates, governors, National Assembly members, and party stakeholders from across Nigeria and the FCT.
