Idoma Tribe has long been a cradle of footballing talent, producing legends such as Peter Ogaba, Daniel Amokachi, Ogenyi Onazi, Tony Ujah, and Moses Simon.

Now, Akor Jerome Adams joins this illustrious list, taking the football world by storm and cementing his status as one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents.

Born on January 29, 2000, in Kogi State to a native of Odoba, a serene Idoma-speaking community along the Otukpo-Enugu road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State, but grew up in Minna, Niger State, Akor’s journey to stardom is a story of talent, resilience, and perseverance.

IDOMA VOICE recalls how Akor’s love for football blossomed on the dusty fields of Odoba, Obu Branch, and neighbouring villages, where his dazzling skills and natural flair quickly earned the admiration of local fans.

From an early age, it was clear he was destined for greatness; his speed, power, and clinical finishing set him apart, making him a star even before stepping onto a professional pitch.

Akor’s professional career began in August 2018, when he moved from Nigeria’s Jamba Football Academy to Norwegian side Sogndal. Despite setbacks, including an injury that sidelined him during the 2020 season, Akor displayed unwavering determination, scoring 10 goals in 28 appearances for Sogndal before his contract expired in 2021.

In December 2021, he signed a three-year deal with Lillestrøm SK, where he continued to impress. He marked his debut in the Norwegian Cup with a goal against Nardo, followed by another in his Eliteserien debut against HamKam.

His growing reputation as a lethal forward soon drew attention from scouts across Europe, paving the way for his move to Ligue 1 club Montpellier in August 2023.

In January 2025, Akor Adams joined Sevilla FC, one of Spain’s most storied football clubs.

The La Liga side secured his services for approximately €5 million, with the forward signing a contract through 2029. This move marks a major milestone in his career, placing him on one of the biggest stages in European football.

On the international stage, Akor represented Nigeria’s U-20 team at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was later called up to the Super Eagles, making his debut by scoring a decisive goal against Lesotho in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Akor was also listed in the Super Eagles squad for the ongoing AFCON in Morocco, where he has netted two goals and provided one assist.

His talent has been hailed by many football legends, including the Prince of Monaco, Victor Ikpeba, who described him as the future.

“I personally have been really impressed with Akor Adams, just his movement and how unselfish he is,” Ikpeba told Bet9ja.
“He’s shown that he is the future. Lots of credit to the manager. He had the faith in him and saw the potential.”

Off the pitch, Akor’s ambitions extend beyond football. Speaking about his goals for the future, he said:

“I have a dream, one that’s bigger than me. I was once just like the kids in the communities where I grew up, and today, I’ve been blessed to become a public figure. This year, for my birthday on January 29, I want to give back in a meaningful way.”

With the support of fans at home and abroad, the young striker’s future looks brighter than ever.
