Delta: Police arrest five over assault of women at Ozoro Festival
The Delta State Police Command has arrested Chief Omorede Sunday, organiser of the Oramudu Festival in Ozoro Community, alongside four others, following reports of sexual assault and molestation of young women during the event.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, strongly condemned the alleged acts, describing sexual violence as criminal, inhumane, and a serious violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.
He has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the Commissioner directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
“Tactical and investigative teams have been deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all individuals found culpable,” the statement read.
The Command also called on members of the public, especially victims and witnesses, to come forward with useful information to support the investigation, assuring that all information provided would be handled with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
CP Adesola further urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, upholding citizens’ rights, and maintaining public order.
The Police Command reiterated its total condemnation of the incident and assured that all those involved would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
