BREAKING: El-Rufai to remain in ICPC custody as bail hearing shifts to June

A Kaduna State High Court has postponed the bail hearing of former governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Darius Khobo following proceedings on Tuesday, after the ex-governor appeared in court over his bail request.

El-Rufai is currently facing an amended nine-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office.

The case was first heard last Tuesday, with the judge initially fixing April 21, 2026, for a decision on the bail application before adjourning further.

Earlier, a Federal High Court in Kaduna had granted El-Rufai bail in a separate corruption case also brought by the ICPC.

Justice Rilwanu Aikawa set bail at N200 million and directed that the former governor remain in ICPC custody until all bail conditions are met.

The conditions include a restriction on public comments regarding the case and mandatory attendance at all court sessions.

Reacting after Tuesday’s proceedings, El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ukpon Akpan, confirmed the adjournment and criticised the delay, alleging that it is politically motivated.
