The Labour Party has formally selected Dr Chibuzo Okereke as its flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election, adopting him through a consensus arrangement.

The announcement was made on Saturday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who confirmed that Okereke emerged unopposed as the party’s choice for the race.

According to Asogwa, Dr Okereke is widely recognised for his work as a governance expert, policy strategist and advocate for institutional reforms.

He said the candidate has earned a strong reputation in the areas of public policy, legislative processes and institutional strengthening, making him a notable voice in national development discussions.

“Okereke has built an impressive reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading voices on public policy, legislative governance and institutional development.

He serves as Legislative Consultant to key committees and ranking members of the National Assembly.

“He is also a Resident Lecturer in the Department of Public Policy and Administration, Miva Open University, Abuja, where he contributes to the development of the next generation of public sector leaders and policy professionals,” he said.

The statement further highlighted that Okereke leads the ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a research-focused institution dedicated to legislative and policy advancement.

It also noted that he holds a PhD in Legislative Governance Studies as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Legislative Studies, both obtained with distinction.

Beyond his academic and professional credentials, the party said he has remained active in promoting youth empowerment, education, and democratic reforms.

The statement added that his experience in governance, accountability, and development work positions him as a strong advocate of effective leadership and national transformation.
