Tanzania President, Samia Suluhu Hassan loses husband

Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.

Ameir died on Monday while receiving treatment for a heart condition at a health facility in Zanzibar, according to a report by BBC News.

Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, announced his death in a statement issued on Monday morning.

The statement said funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, a village on the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar.

Ndejembi expressed condolences to President Hassan and the deceased’s family, describing Ameir as the President’s lifelong companion.

Kenyan President William Ruto also mourned Ameir, saying he received the news of his death with “deep sorrow.
