Troops rescue four injured residents after suspected militia attack in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have rescued four residents injured in a suspected Fulani militia attack in Gonifal Village, Ganawuri District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after troops of Sector 6, OPEP, received a distress report from the community.

The troops quickly moved into the area, forcing the suspected attackers to flee.

A subsequent search of the community led to the rescue of four residents who had suffered machete injuries. They were found inside a house after the attackers reportedly left the area.

The victims were identified as Bagu Mabuly, Ngyuk Bagu, Musa Bagu and Chen Bagu.

The troops evacuated the injured residents to Ganawuri Maternity Clinic, where they received first aid treatment.

Following the attack, security personnel launched efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.

Troops are continuing operations in the area as they search for the attackers and work to prevent further attacks on residents.

Security forces have also maintained vigilance around the community as efforts to locate those responsible continue.
