Zamfara security: Army activates three new infantry battalions
The Nigerian Army has activated three new infantry battalions in Zamfara State to strengthen security operations and improve response to threats across the state.
The new units are the 12 Infantry Battalion in Bakura, 23 Infantry Battalion in Kaura Namoda and 28 Infantry Battalion in Anka.
The Army said the battalions would expand its operational coverage. They would also improve rapid response and security in their respective areas of responsibility.
Major General B.P. Koughna is the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army. He also commands Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
He was represented at the deployment ceremonies by the Acting Commander, 1 Brigade, Colonel Joseph Umaru.
Umaru urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information on security threats.
He also charged the troops to maintain discipline and professionalism. He asked them to remain vigilant while carrying out their constitutional duties.
The Emirs of Bakura, Anka and Kaura Namoda also pledged their support.
They said their traditional institutions would help security agencies through community mobilisation and information sharing.
