Power: Benue youths meet JED regional management over planned protest against electricity company

A group of vibrant young men under the aegis of Benue Youths Development Forum (BYDF) on Tuesday July 23rd, 2019 in Otukpo in Benue State met the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) management over epileptic power supply, poor customer service delivery and zero public relation practice among other things.

Below is an excerpt of the BYDF statement in regards to the meeting:

the “BENUE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FORUM-BYDF (ZONE ” C”) led by her Founder/President-Mr. NGBEDE VALENTINE OFOINE, her Public Relation/Graphics Director-Mr. Gideon Okibe and her Secretary/Media Director-Mr. Ben Idah, had it locked down in a meeting with the Regional Manager of the JOS ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION (JED) COMPANY Otukpo branch and some of his key staff at the Nigerian Police Force Area Command’s Office in Otukpo for about 3hours in a very strict, passionate and non compromised manner as we the BENUE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FORUM approached the Area Commander of the Nigerian Police Force Otukpo Area Command to present a letter of request for security as they planned to embark on a civil and peaceful demonstration to register their displeasure and inconveniences faced over the period as a result of epileptic power supply, inability of JED Company to meter residents and customers, continuous outrageous and illegal estimated billings and lack of helpful and enlightenment communication/information

The group went further to say that “So, as a result of our fruitful and expected productive dialogue with everyone involved in the meeting inclusive of the Otukpo Area Commander Mr. EMMANUEL EGUDARO whose intervention called for this strenuous meeting, which the JED Company promised to work hard, do their best to improve on the pathetic power supply condition we are in at the moment in Otukpo. The BENUE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FORUM have now decided to suspend the 26th July, 2019 planed demonstration to observe and see if there will be improvement on the side of JED Company as promised from our meeting.

“On that same note, a town hall meeting to interface and dialogue is been scheduled between JED Company, all the youths leaders in Otukpo, the various bank managers, the various Hotel operators, the various hospital operators and all other stakeholders within Otukpo metropolis on Friday the 26th July, 2019. Time and venue will be communicated us shortly. WE HAVE STARTED AND WE SHALL NOT REST UNTIL WE ACHIEVE A BETTER OTUKPO FOR ALL OF US. MIND YOU, THIS IS AN ALL INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENTAL REVOLUTION WE HAVE EMBARKED UPON TO SEE IT TO ITS LOGICAL CONCLUSION. PLEASE STAY STRONG AND FAITHFUL WITH US AS WE UNVEIL OTHER AREAS OF CONCERN AND INTEREST.

“My heart felt thanks go to the Almighty God, the Otukpo Area Commander Mr EMMAMUEL EGODARO, the JED Company Regional Manager Otukpo Mr. JOHN UJAH and his fellow staffs, Mr. GIDEON OKIBE, Mr. BEN IDAH and my humble self Mr. OFOINE VALENTINE NGBEDE.
