No fewer than three people have been reportedly killed in Kaduna during a violent face-off between the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and the police on Tuesday morning.

Against the police order, the Shiites made good of their procession threat as they marched on the streets of Abuja and other parts of the country to observe Ashura procession.

The law enforcement agents had warned the sect against carrying out the parade, stating that by virtue of the Terrorism (Prevention) Proscription Order Notice of July 26, 2019, the IMN had been proscribed in the country and cannot hold any procession.

The force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, said any gathering by the Shi’ites “will be treated as a gathering in the advancement of terrorism.”

However, the usually extreme procession turned bloody in Kaduna after the IMN group refused to back down.
