Hausa vs Yoruba clash: Oyo govt shuts shasha market, imposes curfew over ethnic clash
The Oyo State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Shasha market in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, the state capital following the ethnic clash in the area on Friday.
It also imposed an indefinite curfew on Shasha and the market area which runs from 6 pm to 7 am.
The order was made following an ethnic clash between Hausa and Yoruba people in the area on Friday, 12th February 2021 that led to the death of at least one person.
According to a statement signed by Taiwo Adisa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, the government said the order was to forestall breakdown of law and order in the area.
The government warned residents of the affected area to go about their legitimate businesses peacefully, stating that anyone caught perpetrating violence will face the wrath of the law.
