Kankara abduction: I led bandits to kidnap students to shock Gov Masari for daring us – Repentant terrorist
Auwal Daudawa, the gang leader of the banditry group that abducted dozens of schoolboys from Kankara in Niger State, has revealed why him and his men carried out the abduction.
According to the repentant bandits’ leader, Governor Matawalle had vowed that he will never dialogue with criminals, so it was vital for them to shock him with their capacity for violence.
Daudawa made the revelation during a recent interview with Daily Trust.
He said; “I did that in Katsina because the governor came out to say he will not dialogue again with our people. So, we said since they said they were not interested in a peace deal and they were sending military jets to torment our people and destroy what we had, we should take the battle to those who are not interested in peace.
“I did that to demonstrate that I had the capacity to do it and I was not afraid of anybody other than Allah. It was for the government, and the whole world to know that we could do it but were hitherto not interested in something like that.”
He, however, dismissed claims that the gang received a ransom for the release of the victims and stated that whoever has a contrary position should prove it.
