Benue PDP state caucus adopts timelines for 2022 Local Government Polls
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State held its Expanded Caucus meeting yesterday, 10th February, 2022, at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue People’s House, Makurdi.
Leader of the party in the state, His Excellency, Governor Samuel Ortom accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Eunice Ortom PhD, and its State Chairman, Sir John Ngbede presided over the meeting which rose adopting the following timelines for the 2022 Local Government Council Elections slated to hold in the state in May, 2022:
1. Update of Party membership registers from 12th – 22nd February, 2022 at the Ward and Local Government Area levels.
2. Purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms from 14th – 25th February, 2022.
3. Nomination forms are free for female aspirants, however, they are required to pay for Expression of Interest forms and other charges.
4. Last date for return of completed forms by party aspirants to the State Secretariat shall be 25th February, 2022.
5. Screening of Aspirants shall be 26th – 28th February, 2022
6. Names of successful aspirants shall be published on 1st March, 2022.
7. Ward Congresses for nomination of Councillorship candidates and 3 Ad hoc delegates shall hold on 3rd March, 2022.
8. Local Government Area Congresses for nomination of Chairmanship candidates shall hold on 6th March, 2022.
9. For purpose of gender sensitivity and in recognition of the 35% Affirmative Action from the Beijing Conference, women are to enjoy the following extraordinary considerations;
(a) Especial encouragement from the party at the primary elections to 3 women for the position of Council Chairman in each of the 3 Senatorial Districts in the state;
(b) Especial encouragement from the party at the primary elections to 3 women for the position of Deputy Chairman in each of the 3 Senatorial Districts in the state;
(c) Especial encouragement from the party at the Primary elections to 3 women for the position of Councillor in each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
10. Strict adherence to provisions of the law to be upheld in the implementation of the prescribed timelines.
