The suspended head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari, has accused the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) of being behind his travails.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that on Monday, February 14, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had arrested Kyari over alleged drug trafficking and for being a member of a drug syndicate that operates across the globe.
Last year, Abba Kyari was also suspended by the police after United States’ FBI indicted him over his alleged role in a $1.1millon scam allegedly perpetrated by suspected fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
However, when he appeared before a probe panel led by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Joseph Egbunike, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Abba Kyari accused IPOB and ESN of being behind his woes.
Daily Trust reported that Kyari’s claim was contained in a report submitted by the panel to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, which was in turn forwarded to the Police Service Commission (PSC).
According to him, IPOB and its armed wing vowed to tarnish his reputation and destroy him due to the onslaught launched against them in the South-East.
“It is a campaign to smear his reputation by members of IPOB/ESN who vowed to destroy him, due to his onslaught against them in the South East,” Kyari was quoted to have said in the report.
It was gathered that the panel faulted his claim, saying it is watery, and ordered his demotion from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that police investigations also revealed how Abba Kyayi’s younger brother received over N277 million from members of a syndicate led by Hushpuppi.
