The Nigerian Police Force has dismissed reports that the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) investigating the former Head, Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police has submitted its report to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that Kyari is being probed by a four-man panel headed by the Deputy Inspector -General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike following his alleged involvement in the Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi fraud case.
Recall that the United States Department of Justice had said ongoing investigations showed that Hushpuppi allegedly bribed Kyari to arrest one Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, one of his accomplices in Nigeria.
According to a court document released by the United States Department of Justice, titled: ‘Six Indicted in International Scheme to Defraud Qatari School Founder and then Launder over $1 Million in Illicit Proceeds’, Kyari was said to have been bribed to arrest one Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, 40, in Nigeria, who created bogus documents and arranged for the creation of a fake bank website and phone banking line to support the defrauding of a business person trying to provide $1.1m for the funding of a school in Qatar.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public that the probe into the alleged indictment of DCP Abba Kyari by the FBI, being conducted by the NPF Special Investigation Panel (SIP), is still ongoing.
“Members of the public are enjoined to note that the panel has not submitted its report to the Inspector General of Police, as being wrongly reported in some news outlet and online platforms.
“The Force hereby reassures the public that the outcome of investigations by the probe panel would be communicated accordingly upon conclusion of the investigations,” the statement reads.
