Abba Moro makes list of candidates for 2019 National Assembly election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), office has published the list of candidates for Presidential, Senatorial and the House of Representatives for the 2019 general elections.
Femi Akinbiyi, the commission’s Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, made this disclosure on Thursday.
The list has been pasted at its headquarters as well as its offices across states of the federation.
Akinbiyi said the decision was in line with the provision of Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
He said in its bid to meet with these provisions, the INEC has published that “in all, 76 candidates will vie for the Presidential seat, 50 candidates for the three (3) Senatorial seats in the state and 249 candidates for the 24 federal constituencies.”
In the national assembly list for Benue State candidates sighted by our reporter, INEC confirmed that immediate past Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party would slug it out against former permanent Secretary of Defence, Okibe Onoja Mike (SDP) and Chief Steven Lawani (APC).
Similarly, a former Governor Gabriel Suswam PDP) will battle Senator Barnabas Gemade (SDP), Joseph Akaagerger (APGA) and Former Benue State Internal Revenue Service Chair Mrs Mimi Orubi (APC) will contest for the Zone A Benue North East senatorial seat.
For Zone B Benue North West Senatorial district the top candidates are Senator George Akume (APC) and Chairman House Committee on Businesses (PDP)
Confirming the development, the Director, Media and Publicity of the Abba Moro Campaign Organisation, Ameh Comrade Godwin, said his principal had since received the letter of confirmation from INEC.
Ameh said, “Yes, we received the confirmation letter yesterday from INEC and we sincerely thank leadership of the PDP and all the delegates for the mandate.
“Comrade Abba Moro is ready to speak for the people of Benue South from the Red Chamber in Abuja.
“We want to urge our teeming supporters in Nigeria and in the Diaspora to desist from abusive campaign against our opponents and their supporters.
“Our campaign is strictly issue-based. We don’t abuse, disrespect, scandalize or demean anybody. We believe in equal rights of all persons to vote and be voted for without any iota of harassment or intimidation.
“No doubt, there would be abuses, insults, blackmails, falsehoods and even intimidation, but instead of abusing and fighting back, tell them what Comrade Abba Moro has done for us and what he will do if he’s elected to represent us as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We are for #Better2Moro and our anthem is good representation.”
