On Tuesday night, Abbas briefed President Tinubu about his previous meeting with the NARD leadership. Earlier in the week, the Speaker had engaged in discussions with the national leadership of NARD and had requested the doctors to suspend their planned strike. He sought their patience and understanding, promising to address the issues raised by the association within a two-week period.

To urgently address the matter, the Speaker formed an ad hoc committee led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, the Leader of the House.

In response to the situation, the Speaker met with President Tinubu within 24 hours and urged him to intervene and address the concerns raised by the resident doctors, emphasizing the vital role they play in the country’s healthcare system.

Despite their grievances, the resident doctors proceeded with their indefinite strike on Tuesday evening, prompting the Speaker to instruct the ad hoc committee to expedite their discussions with all stakeholders to swiftly bring an end to the strike.
