Mrs Alimot Akande, an Ibadan resident, has called on President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to secure the safe release of her daughter and 18 other prospective NYSC members kidnapped while travelling to Abia State.

Akande made the appeal on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State, after losing contact with her daughter following the incident.

The 19 prospective corps members reportedly left Ibadan on Wednesday and were travelling to Abia State when suspected kidnappers attacked their vehicle between Anambra and Abia states in the early hours of Thursday.

Akande’s daughter was among those abducted.

The mother said the victims had boarded a commercial transport bus in the Sango area of Ibadan for the journey to Abia State.

She explained that the passengers stopped in Onitsha at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday before continuing the trip the next morning.

According to Akande, her daughter managed to send a brief message alerting the family that the vehicle had come under attack by kidnappers.

“My daughter was among the prospective corps members travelling to Abia. They boarded a commercial bus in Sango and stopped in Onitsha at around 10 p.m. before continuing their journey the following morning,” Akande said.

She added that the brief message was the last communication she received from her daughter.

“She suddenly sent a message saying there were kidnappers, which made us realise that the bus had been attacked. Since then, we have not been able to reach her,” she said.

Akande urged the Federal Government, NYSC, police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to locate the victims and secure their safe release.

“I am appealing to President Tinubu and the security authorities to act quickly and bring my daughter and the other victims home safely,” she said.
