A mobile police officer who was kidnapped near the Kampani community in Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been discovered dead.
The officer, along with a soldier, was part of a security team combating bandits terrorizing a community on the border with Taraba State. They were reportedly ambushed around the Kampani community.
While the soldier managed to escape, the police officer was not as fortunate. Reports from Wase town indicate that the officer’s lifeless body was found in a bush at Bangalala on Sunday.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, has yet to respond to inquiries about the incident at the time of this report.
The Wase local government area has seen a rise in bandit attacks in recent times. On May 21, 2024, bandits launched a deadly attack on the Zurak community, killing over 40 villagers and injuring many others, including vigilantes who were assisting security forces in restoring order.
