Abia Central: Labour Party kicks as court sacks Darlington Nwokocha

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has vehemently contested the removal of Senator Darlington Nwokocha from the Senate, asserting that the Appeal Court judgment issued on Saturday was erroneously made and should not be upheld.

The LP has expressed profound shock and disbelief since the news of Nwokocha’s ousting surfaced over the weekend. The party’s stance was communicated by Ceakay Igara, the Chairman of the LP in Abia State, during a press conference held in Umuahia.

Igara described the Appeal Court ruling as a display of judicial misconduct and alleged that the judgment had been surreptitiously introduced without the availability of a Certified True Copy. He contended that the Supreme Court had already addressed matters related to Section 77 of the Electoral Act in various rulings, making it unwarranted to rely on internal party issues to unseat Nwokocha.

Igara claimed that the judgment was tantamount to imposing an unwanted decision on the people of Abia Central. The LP Chairman urged the members of the panel to reconsider their decision and reinstate Nwokocha as their representative in the Senate.

He stated, “We are deeply dismayed by the irregularities in the judiciary, particularly the manipulation of judgments and divisive verdicts. Since all the judgments of the day were based on Section 77, a reversal is in order.”

Igara emphasized, “We are certain that Senator Darlington has not been removed; he remains our sole Senator for Abia Central.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State is celebrating following the judgment that reinstated their candidate, Austin Akobundu, as the senator for Abia Central.
