Abia Reps Member, Ikwechegh to be arraigned for assaulting Abuja Bolt driver
The Nigerian Police Force is preparing to arraign Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver at his residence in Abuja.
The lawmaker, who represents the Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, is scheduled to appear before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje at noon to enter his plea.
He will be prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit.
Deji Adeyanju, the attorney representing the Bolt driver, along with Stephen Abuwatseya, the nominal complainant, confirmed this development to Vanguard.
This incident gained significant attention after a video surfaced on social media showing Hon. Ikwechegh repeatedly slapping the Bolt driver. In the video, the federal lawmaker expressed his frustration over what he perceived as the driver’s rude behavior, claiming he could make the driver “disappear without a trace” without consequence.
In response to widespread condemnation of his actions, Hon. Ikwechegh later issued a public apology for his behavior.
