Abia security patrol van plunges into ditch, one dead, nine injured

A patrol van belonging to Operation Crush, the Abia State joint security outfit, plunged into a ditch along a bad section of the Umuahia-Bende Road on Sunday.

It was gathered that the accident claimed the life of one security operative, while nine others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Residents of Isieke and other sympathizers played a key role in rescuing the injured personnel.

The exact cause of the accident has yet to be officially determined, and the identity of the deceased officer remains unknown at the time of this report. However, eyewitnesses suggested that the vehicle suddenly veered off the road before crashing into the ditch.

In a related development, one security operative initially declared missing was later found alive after emerging from the bush.

Meanwhile, medical personnel at the Federal Medical Centre are making every effort to stabilize the injured officers. A senior Abia State government official has also visited them to assess their condition.
