In keeping with a promise of the Samuel Ortom led APC administration in Benue state, to address the deplorable state of primary schools in the state, Benue State deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu on Sunday flagged off the construction of a block of 3 standard classrooms, a headmaster’s office, store and three V.I.P toilets at three different locations in Otukpo local government area.
Speaking at Akpegede, Otukpo Nobi and Okpamaju, Engr. Abounu said the state government is committed to fulfilling every promise made to the people, adding that even in the face of the huge financial challenges facing the state, the government still bent backwards to source for funds to carry out urgent renovation in our primary schools.
He disclosed that due to the failure of the last administration to meet its counterpart obligations, monies that should have been used to address the rot in the primary schools were left un-accessed, adding that the APC government had to source for, and pay N 3.8b for the state access N7.6b for the UBEC / SUBEB 2011- 2015 Intervention program.
Engr Aboumu further disclosed that the State Government/UBEC partnership is currently carrying out renovation and construction of over 700 primary schools in various parts of the state.
The deputy governor called on the people to increase their support for the government and the ruling party and assured them that more democratic dividends would come their way.
Speaking at Akpegede, home village of former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, headmistress of LGEA Primary School, Mrs. Alache Awuru commended the state government for remembering them and coming to their aid.
Mrs Awuru who called for God’s continuous blessings on Governor Samuel Ortom and Engr Benson Abounu decried the infrastructural decay in her school and lamented that aside from other inadequacies, about 4 classrooms are beyond renovation at Okpamaju.
