Abraham happy to extend contract at Roma

Tammy Abraham, Roma’s standout striker for the 2021/2022 season, is open to a new contract at the Serie A club.

Abraham joined the Eternal City from Chelsea in a £34 million deal last summer, and he had a fantastic first season in Italy, scoring 23 goals and winning the Europa Conference League as the second highest goal-scorer.

Abraham has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, but insiders have stated that he is not in a rush to leave Rome. He himself is determined to remain, saying: “It’s been a good year for me. I love this club. They’ve given me the opportunity to show myself, my heart is here. We’ll see what the future holds, but my heart is here.”

Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Steven Gerard’s Aston Villa – where he previously spent time on loan – are all said to have contacted agents to inquire about Abraham’s availability, but they swiftly learnt that he is content working under Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Blues have a buy-back clause in place for Abraham that may be activated in 2023, but Chelsea would have to pay £68 million to do so, which is double what they received from Roma for the striker.
