Actress Yetunde Wunmi opens up about losing her marriage to acting
Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has opened up about the sacrifices she made for her acting career. In an interview with BBC Yoruba, the 64-year-old revealed that her journey in the entertainment industry began in 1982 when she joined Sunday Akinola’s ‘Feyi Kogbon’ theatre group as a stage performer.
Reflecting on her nearly four-decade-long experience in film, Wunmi shared that her dedication to acting ultimately led to the end of her marriage.
She reminisced about a significant moment in her early career, recalling, “I cannot forget Adelove. He brought stage drama to Danjuma film, close to where I lived then. He wore all white that day and arrived in a white car. Everyone ran towards him, and I also went closer just to touch his clothes. I was overjoyed, feeling as if I had touched gold. That was when I developed an interest in theatre.”
Despite the personal sacrifices, Wunmi expressed no regrets about her acting career, stating, “I lost my marriage due to my love for this theatre. But I have never regretted being an actress since then because God has been gracious to me.”
