Adamawa police arrested 53-year-old over sexual assault on mentally ill minor
A 53-year-old man, Usman Ahmadu, was apprehended by the Adamawa State Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally challenged minor.
Usman Ahmadu, said to have hailed from Maiduguri in Borno State, resides as an internally displaced person, IDP, in Saminaka, a community on the outskirts of Yola, in Yola North Local Government Area.
Now being held by the state Police Command, Usman Ahmadu has confessed to sexually assaulting the mentally ill girl four times, beginning in 2021.
A statement from the state Police Command which disclosed the case, said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, had ordered diligent investigation and prosecution of the case.
The statement, released Thursday morning by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, quoted the CP as assuring that there is no hiding place for criminals in Adamawa State.
The Police statement did not state the age of the assaulted minor.
Neighbours of the suspect who commented on the act for which he is now in police detention said it had been crude of him to have pounced on a vulnerable minor after he had lived for years on the generous benevolence of the Saminaka community as an IDP.
