Adeyanju seeks stronger regional cooperation as UN envoy visits Nigeria
Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simão, to Nigeria ahead of his working visit scheduled for November 2 to 7, 2026.
Adeyanju, in a statement, expressed excitement over Simão’s visit, noting that he had anticipated joining other stakeholders to engage with the UN official during his stay.
However, he disclosed that his absence from the country due to an event abroad would prevent him from participating in the planned engagements.
The lawyer expressed appreciation for the invitation extended to him to join other critical stakeholders in meeting with the UN representative.
He wished Simão a successful visit and productive discussions, expressing hope that the engagements would contribute to strengthening peace, stability and regional cooperation across West Africa and the Sahel.
Simão is the Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).
