The traditional ruler of Ogbadibo Local Government, otherwise known as Ad’Ogbadibo, Chief Emmanuel Odeh, has reacted to the crisis brewing in Owukpa following the erection of an illegal mortuary by a popular businessman in the land.
IDOMA VOICE reports that crisis is currently brewing in the area over the erection of the unapproved building by the man.
It was gathered that the owner, identified as is Chinedu Ugwu, allegedly has a mortuary in Adoka community and decided to expand the branch of the morgue to Ipole Owukpa.
The reports claimed that the ‘merchant of death’ purchased the land at the rate of 800,000 from the seller, Mr. Emaikwu Abah, who is an indigene of the community.
However, despite refusal by the host community to allow him float his ‘lifeless business’, Chinedu few days back launched the mortuary after claiming to have obtained necessary documents from backing from Makurdi, through the local government.
Speaking on the development, the monarch said the land seller and the mortuary attendant have been arrested and handed over to the police.
“When the man came initially, we stopped him. We never knew he went behind to bribe some elders. When I heard it, I had to retrieve the money from the elders.
“We heard that he came to our village three days back to launch the place.
“When we interrogated him, he claimed he had obtained legal documents from Makurdi through the local government headquarters but out findings showed that he did not do such.
“He ran away from the community when he noticed the youths wanted to descend on him. The mortuary attendant has been arrested. The man who sold the land also tried to challenge the gods and he’s currently cooling his heels in the police net.
“I call on our youths not to take law into their hands. We will sort this out.”
