The SEVENTH ( 7) edition of Senator Adejo Ogiri memorial football championship which took place at the Methodist Primary school Adoka center witnessed a large turnout by participating teams and spectators who came out in their large numbers to witness this annual fiesta which was institutionalized since 2011.
Before the kick off a minute silence was observed in honour of those who lost their lives in the ill fated accident at Ojinebe-Adoka on december 28.
Different teams competed in the tournament which was monitored and officiated by Adoka Football Association (AFA) an affiliate of Benue State Football Association.
The various participating teams slugged it out at the group stage. Adoka United FC of Adoka and Angry scorpion united of Udabi made it to the final. After the tensely soaked final and a good doze of derby clash of ninety minutes playtime, Adoka United FC defeated Angry Scorpion of Udabi FC 3- 2 on penalty shootout.
Speaking at the end of the match, the initiator of the football championship Engr, Ogagbano Adejo Ogiri, son of the late Sen Adejo Ogiri and conciever of the Ogagbano Youth and Development Initiative, said he appreciated all the participating teams, hailed the tenacity of the boys who defied the blazing sun to battle for the top spot in the keenly contested competition and congratulated the winner and also the 2nd place team for putting up a gallant fight. He also reiterated his continuous support to sponsor and sustain the annual sporting event.
The Secretary General of Adoka Football Association (AFA), Coach Ajene Otache commended Engr. Oga Adejo Ogiri for the sponsorship of the youth football championship consecutively for the seventh time in honour of his late father Senator Adejo Ogiri and his continuous support to the development of the sport in Adoka.
At the end of the finals, several gift items including sets of jerseys were given out to all the participating teams, prizes for highest goal scorer, best goal keeper and coach and also physical cash to the third, second and winning teams.
