AFCON 2023: Nigeria’s Super Eagles devour Ivory Coast

Nigeria’s Super Eagles emerged victorious against the host nation Ivory Coast in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The game took place at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé, where both teams failed to score in the initial half.

During the first half, Victor Osimhen missed a significant opportunity to give Jose Peseiro’s side the lead when he kicked the ball over the bar after receiving a fine through pass from Samuel Chukwueze. However, the tide turned in the second half when Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong secured the lead for Nigeria with a powerful penalty.

The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for the Super Eagles, propelling Peseiro’s side to the second position in Group A with four points from two games. Ivory Coast occupies the third position with three points from an equal number of games.
