Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has stressed the urgency for his team to ramp up their goal-scoring efforts to fulfill their aspirations of clinching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Super Eagles struggled in the group stage, managing a meager three goals—two from open play and one via a penalty. Notably, they squandered numerous clear-cut opportunities, particularly in their initial two matches of the tournament.
As they secure a spot in the Round of 16, Peseiro anticipates a more challenging phase in the competition.
“We are entering a new phase of the competition— the knockout matches, which are the most critical. Our efficiency in front of goal needs improvement because any slight misstep could prove fatal for us,” Peseiro said.
With heightened expectations, the Super Eagles are set to face the second-place team in Group C at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday night in their Round of 16 encounter.
