Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has declared that his team’s primary goal is to secure a victory over Mozambique and advance to the quarter-finals at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking ahead of the crucial Round of 16 clash, Chelle acknowledged the mounting pressure on his squad to avoid a potential upset.

So far, the Super Eagles have maintained a perfect record in the tournament, winning all three of their group stage matches.

However, Chelle pointed out that the last time Nigeria achieved a 100% record in the group stage (AFCON 2021), they were eliminated by Tunisia in the Round of 16.

The three-time champions are eager to ensure they don’t suffer a similar fate this year.

“We are desperate to win the next game,” Chelle said at a press conference.

“It’s crucial that we focus on this match first. If God allows us to reach the quarter-finals, then we will shift our focus there. But right now, the priority is Mozambique.”

When asked about the pressure, Chelle responded, “Yes, we are under pressure, but it’s a challenge we are ready for.”
