AFCON 2025: Super Eagles have what it takes to win title – Bassey
Calvin Bassey is confident that the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bassey, who was part of the squad that finished as runners-up in the last edition in Côte d’Ivoire, believes the team has grown stronger since their narrow 2-1 loss to the hosts in a tightly contested final.
With most of the squad still intact, Bassey feels that the team has gained valuable experience and is now more than ready to go all the way in the upcoming tournament.
“Definitely, 100%. When we played in the last AFCON, I was 23. Now, I’ve matured, and many of the team members have as well. We’ve gained a lot of experience,” Bassey shared with Fulham TV.
This will be Bassey’s second appearance in a major tournament for Nigeria, and at 25, he’s expected to play a crucial role in Morocco, especially after the retirement of former captain William Troost-Ekong.
Bassey and Semi Ajayi are the preferred central defensive partnership for head coach Éric Chelle.
