Five countries have successfully secured their places in the Round of 16 following the conclusion of Monday’s Group A and Group B final matches in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal, Cape Verde, and Egypt are the first set of nations to advance to the knockout stage.

Equatorial Guinea delivered an impressive performance by thrashing the host nation, Ivory Coast, with a convincing 4-0 victory. Meanwhile, Nigeria secured a 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau to secure their place in the Round of 16.

In a closely contested match, Egypt played to a 2-2 draw against Cape Verde, securing their passage to the next round. Similarly, Ghana also played to a 2-2 draw against Mozambique.

With these results, Egypt finished in the second position in Group B, while Ghana secured the third spot. Senegal and Cape Verde had already booked their places in the knockout stage after winning their first two matches.

Although Senegal has already secured a spot, they still have one more group stage match to play as the competition intensifies in the quest for the coveted AFCON title.
