Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro, has assured that his players will not be daunted by the electrifying atmosphere as Nigeria prepares to face hosts Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday.
Ivory Coast will undoubtedly be seeking redemption after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Super Eagles during matchday two in Group A. However, Peseiro and his team are singularly focused on clinching their fourth AFCON title, while the Elephants aim to secure their third.
Addressing the press on Saturday ahead of the crucial final, Peseiro emphasized his team’s readiness to thrive in the intense environment. He expressed his appreciation for the vibrant atmosphere, acknowledging the fervent support expected from the home crowd.
“The stadium will undoubtedly be packed, creating a fantastic atmosphere. As we approach this final, my players, my staff, and I welcome the challenge of playing in such an environment,” Peseiro remarked.
“Though the crowd may be vocal and passionate, we will not let it affect our performance. Our sole focus is on executing our game plan with precision and determination,” he added. “We understand the importance of maintaining our mental balance throughout the match, staying committed to our tasks, and seizing every opportunity on the pitch.”
Peseiro stressed the significance of his players maintaining their composure, irrespective of the external pressures. “Even when the crowd rallies behind Ivory Coast, our players must remain unfazed. Our motivation stems from our desire to emerge victorious in this AFCON,” he affirmed.
