AFCON: NFF told what to do to Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro

Sports administrator Tayo Adeyemo has advocated for the retention of Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to extend his contract.

Adeyemo noted that extending Peseiro’s contract would facilitate early preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Adeyemo stressed the importance of focusing on home-based players to bolster Nigeria’s chances of clinching victory in the next AFCON, set to be held in Morocco in 2025.

“Morocco will host the 35th edition of the Total Energies CAF or The Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. The NFF should extend the contract of the coach,” he stated.

Adeyemo urged both the Super Eagles and the NFF to prioritize preparations for the next AFCON and its qualifiers to surpass previous records.

He stressed the need for a squad comprising dedicated, skilled, and determined players to secure the trophy in their next attempt.

“They should prepare more on training and playing quality friendly matches frequently with the home-based players if the international players are not ready,” Adeyemo suggested.

Reflecting on the Super Eagles’ performance at the 2023 AFCON hosted by Cote d’Ivoire, Adeyemo commended the team for clinching the second position.

He noted the surprise among many Nigerians at the team’s journey to the final and emphasized the coach’s excellent performance, advocating for his retention.
