Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has made the decision to compete in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in the Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
This choice implies that Onana will be unavailable for several of United’s upcoming matches in the Premier League, the FA Cup, and potentially the Carabao Cup and the Champions League, should Cameroon progress to the final.
Despite an earlier expectation that Onana would miss the tournament due to a disagreement with head coach Rigobert Song during the 2022 World Cup, where he left Cameroon’s camp in Qatar to return home, Onana made his return to the national team.
He featured in their 3-0 victory over Burundi in September and played in a friendly match against Senegal, which ended with a 1-0 defeat for Cameroon.
United had been uncertain about Onana’s availability at the beginning of 2024, but according to reports from the UK Metro, he has now confirmed his intention to represent his national side at the Africa Cup of Nations.
