AFCON: Super Eagles beat SierraLeone

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match which took place at the Mashood Abiola National Stadium on Thursday.

Jonathan Morsay opened the scoring in the 11the minute but Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi quickly levelled proceedings for Nigeria with a superb finish in the 16th minute.

Vitor Osimhen fired home the winner from Moses Simon’s knockdown in the 41st minute to earn the Nigerian side all points.

With the win, Nigeria sit second in Group A with three points from one game.

Guinea-Bissau are top of the table, though, with three points as Nigeria, they have a +4 goals advantage after hammering Sao Tome and Principe 5-1 in their own encounter.
