Africa Memorial Day 2024 set for May 1

The Correct Connect Africa Foundation (CCAF) is set for the commemoration of Africa Memorial Day 2024, themed “Historical Consciousness and National Unity.”
The event would take place on May 1st, 2024, at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This year’s observance marks a pivotal moment in celebrating Africa’s rich cultural heritage, while fostering unity among the continent’s diverse nations and peoples.

Africa Memorial Day (AMD), a flagship programme of CCAF, serves as a solemn tribute to the brave heroes and heroines, and African martyrs who fought tirelessly for the liberation and independence of Africa. Through a series of events and initiatives, AMD aims to reorient, recognise, and reward individuals whose contributions have shaped the continent’s history and identity.

In line with the theme, “Historical Consciousness and National Unity,” this year’s AMD celebration will emphasize the importance of understanding and acknowledging Africa’s past in forging a united future. By embracing historical consciousness, Africans and the African Diaspora can reclaim their roots and heritage, fostering a sense of pride and solidarity across borders.

Amidst the challenges and triumphs of our past, Anthony Aleakwe Odior, the General Coordinator of CCAF, says that Africa Memorial Day serves as a beacon of remembrance and renewal. “As we reflect on the sacrifices of our ancestors and celebrate the resilience of our people, we are reminded of the power of unity in shaping Africa’s destiny,” he concludes.

The Africa Memorial Day 2024 programme will feature a diverse range of activities, including:

Commemorative Ceremonies; Speeches from notable Pan-Africanists and renowned personalities; vibrant cultural performances showcasing Africa’s rich diversity and heritage.

As Africa Memorial Day approaches, CCAF calls on individuals, organizations, and governments across the continent to identify and engage with it towards making the Cultural-Heritage Fiesta a memorable one. We all need to come together, especially as Africans to treasure our rich past, harness the present, and build a common bridge of cultural consciousness and development – into the future for our common good.
