The Rivers State House of Assembly has once again raised the specter of impeaching the state governor, Sim Fubara.
The assembly asserted that it “will not hesitate to impeach Fubara if it becomes necessary to uphold the Constitution.”
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, made this declaration during a media briefing held in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The Speaker was joined by 26 of his colleagues, reiterating the seriousness of the Assembly’s stance.
Meanwhile, the 27 lawmakers allied with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, criticized the former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, led by Dr. Abiye Sekibo, for its recent attack on Wike.
In 2023, the lawmakers had first raised the threat of impeaching the governor amidst his dispute with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
However, in December, 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly rescinded their impeachment notice against Fubara.
This decision was announced during a session on Wednesday, citing respect for President Bola Tinubu, who had organized a reconciliation meeting between the conflicting parties.
