President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja for Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on Thursday to participate in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.

According to a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President will engage in high-level discussions with other African leaders regarding institutional reforms of the African Union, as well as peace and security issues.

The summit’s theme, “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” will also be a focal point of discussion.

Tinubu is expected to address specific thematic issues such as climate change and the AU’s participation and priorities in the G20.

In addition to the AU summit, Tinubu will attend an extraordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in his capacity as the Chairman of the regional body.

Accompanied by ministers and other government officials, Tinubu will return to Abuja following the conclusion of the summit.

This visit to Ethiopia marks the fourth African state visited by Tinubu since assuming the presidency nine months ago, making it his 15th foreign destination and 11th foreign trip overall. Previous visits include Paris, London, Bissau, Nairobi, Porto Norvo, New Delhi, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, New York, Riyadh, and Berlin.
