The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State, Hon. Melvin Ejeh, has clarified the casualty figure from the recent deadly ambush by suspected criminal herders, disputing earlier media reports that claimed 15 people were killed.
Ejeh, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that six persons lost their lives in the attack, while two others sustained injuries. He identified the deceased as:
Haruna Shuaibu (M)
Samuel Ibrahim
Aliyu Yahaya
Oyenge Adams (M)
Malik Gabriel (M)
Fatima Shuaibu (F)
The chairman dismissed the widely circulated figure of 15 fatalities, attributing it to misinformation allegedly spread by John Ikwulono, a former vice chairman of the council. He accused Ikwulono of distorting facts for political purposes.
“It is unfortunate that some individuals would exploit such a tragedy for political relevance. We must not play politics with people’s lives,” Ejeh stated.
