The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has condemned in totality the fresh attack on Okokolo community in Agatu LGA of the state, which led to the death of several persons, including women and children on Sunday, June 30, 2019.
He described the killings of defenceless and innocent citizens as callous, wicked and barbaric.
Comrade Moro lamented that over 20 persons have been confirmed dead in the latest attack while several houses were completely razed by the heartless attackers.
The senator, in a statement from his media office on Monday, urged security operatives to do all that is needed to bring the perpetrators of the cruel act to book and as well prevent further attacks in the area.
The lawmaker decried that it was obvious to see that Agatu has again retuned to the era of anarchy, bloodshed and disaster.
He warned that no society can survive where human life is so undervalued and where some arrogate to themselves the right to take it from others at will.
Comrade Moro further lamented that the attack came at a time of the year when farming activities were ongoing across the community.
He said, “To say I am shocked beyond words over the fresh attack on my people in Okokolo, Agatu is an understatement. This is unbelievable, unjustifiable and unimaginable.
“It bleeds my heart because nothing whatsoever justifies this unabashed act of mass murder and destruction meted out to the people of Okokolo in Agatu on Sunday.
“The dastardly act came at the time of the year when farming activities are ongoing.”
He, therefore, called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to urgently mobilise the security agencies to end the senseless bloody siege on the area, which has reportedly led to death of over 2,000 persons over the years.
While commiserating with families of the victims, Moro, however, told the survivors of the attacks to remain calm and law-abiding no matter the level of provocation.
He prayed God to give the families the fortitude to bear the attendant irreparable loss.
