Agatu tanker fire: Ortom pledges support to victims

The Benue State Government has assured the victims of the Agatu tanker explosion which occurred on Sunday 18th April, 2021 that it will provide intervention to help them bounce back.

This is coming even as the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) carried out an impact assessment as directed by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

Recall that, on Sunday, a diesel tanker fell on the road at Oshigbudu village of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, spilling all its content into the neighbouring houses. The incident claimed about thirteen (13) lives, raised down many houses and shops.

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Shior speaking during an on the spot assessment of the incident, lamented the rising cases of fire accident which he said, had led to unavoidable deaths of innocent citizens, describing it as unfortunate.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon. Cyprian Tsenongo, the Benue SEMA Boss assured that, the victims will be supported from the Government through the Agency cushion the effect.

Speaking, the Council Chairman of Agutu, Hon. Sule Adoyi commended Governor Samuel Ortom for his prompt intervention, decrying the huge level of destruction the accident has caused.

In their separate responses, Mr. Christian Onah, Ngbede James and Hassan Amuda who spoke on behalf of the victims, all applauded Governor Samuel Ortom for his proactive response through Benue SEMA for coming to assess the damages the incident has caused them, as well as the pledge he has made to support them.
