Agbo Major emerges NNPP National Chairman

Dr. Agbo Major has been elected as the new National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) during the party’s national convention held at RockView Hotel in Apapa, Lagos.
The convention, which commenced at 9 p.m. on Tuesday and concluded around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, saw the election of other key officials, including Mr. Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary, Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South), and Alhaji Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North).
Also elected were Mr. Adetoyese Omokanye as National Treasurer, Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam as National Publicity Secretary, Hajia Aisha Kade as National Woman Leader, Chief Edward Ofomona as National Youth Leader, and Omolara Johnson as National Organising Secretary, among others.
The convention was attended by members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC), and elected officeholders nationwide.
The reconstitution follows a directive from the Abia High Court on November 1, 2024, instructing the NNPP’s BoT, led by founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to reorganize all party structures from the ward level to the national convention. The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the new NNPP leadership.
Aniebonam stated that the party had successfully reorganized its structures up to the zonal level and that the convention marked the final step in establishing the new NWC to oversee the party’s administration. He confirmed that INEC and security agencies had been duly notified.
Speaking at the event, BoT Secretary Alhaji Mohammed Babayo emphasized the party’s unity and commitment to providing credible leadership in Nigeria. He urged the newly elected officials to lead with integrity and dedication.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Agbo Major called on aggrieved party members to return and contribute to the NNPP’s development. He assured delegates of his commitment to repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are poised to deliver and will work vigorously to strengthen the party. All elected officials must align with this vision to ensure optimal performance,” Major stated.
He further warned that only those who meet the party’s standards would be allowed to hold leadership roles, adding that the National Secretary would soon issue directives in this regard.
