Akor Adams has revealed that Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho played significant roles in convincing him to join Sevilla.
The 24-year-old striker disclosed this during his unveiling as a new Sevilla player at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium on Tuesday. Adams signed a contract with the club until 2029, following his departure from Montpellier.
Speaking at the event, Adams expressed his excitement about joining the Spanish club:
“It has been a very good few days with many good people. I am very happy to be here. All the negotiations were handled by my agent. We know Sevilla are a great club, and I am delighted to have arrived.”
Adams also credited Ejuke and Iheanacho for influencing his decision:
“I spoke to Ejuke, and he told me that I had to come here, that I would love it. Kelechi is a great player, and he also encouraged me. I’m very happy that I listened to them.”
Adams, who arrived in Seville on Saturday, had the opportunity to watch his new team play against Espanyol at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Reflecting on the experience, he said:
“I think it was fantastic. My first impression is something I will remember for a long time. I loved everything, from the anthem to the end of the game. The atmosphere was incredible, and the fans are amazing. We should have won the game, but Espanyol were very defensive. Hopefully, we can win the next one—fingers crossed.”
Adams shared his long-standing admiration for Sevilla:
“I’ve been watching this club long before I even dreamed of coming here. Sevilla’s achievements in Europe are remarkable; they’ve conquered the continent multiple times. I’ve watched many of their finals. For me, it’s a great honor to be part of such a historic club.”
The former Flying Eagles striker also spoke about his desire to follow in the footsteps of great African players who have represented Sevilla:
“There’s so much history in this club, and I’m here to play my part and hopefully write my own chapter. The African players who came before me have paved the way, and I want to build on their legacy.”
Adams highlighted his playing style and goals for the future:
“I like to play in the spaces and can operate alongside another striker or as a lone forward. I aim to relieve pressure on the team and, most importantly, score goals.
The key is being fit and mentally ready. Since my arrival, I’ve received a very warm welcome. I’ll work hard to adapt quickly, improve with each game, and contribute to the team. I am ready.”
Looking back on his career, Adams expressed hope of replicating his past successes:
“In Norway, I had a fantastic career with Lillestrøm, where I was part of a great team and achieved a lot. My time in France was also fruitful, especially during my first season. I hope to bring that same energy and success here at Sevilla. My focus is to give my best and help the team achieve its goals.”
