An Oyo chief has said the 18 wives of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo are now free to remarry.
He said the women can now move on without undergoing cleansing rituals after the demise of the renowned monarch.
“They are not performing any cleansing; they are free to move on with their lives,” the Oyo chief said.
He added, “Now that Alaafin is dead, they will all be asked to exit the palace with their belongings.” Although the properties of the late monarch would be shared among them,
But there is a caveat: None of the wives is allowed to marry an Oyo indigene.
They can marry or date any man from anywhere, but not with an Oyo indigene.
