Alia flags off fertilizer distribution to farmers in Benue
In a bid to bolster agricultural productivity and provide vital assistance to farmers, the dynamic Benue State Governor, Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has officially kicked off the much-anticipated Fertilizer Distribution Program across the state. The initiative aims to foster sustainable growth in the agricultural sector by offering substantial subsidies to farmers.
With a groundbreaking 50% subsidy, the government has taken a proactive approach to reduce the financial burden on farmers. Previously priced at ₦25,000, the high-quality fertilizer will now be available to farmers at an affordable subsidized rate of ₦12,500.
During the launch ceremony, held at a vibrant agricultural hub, Governor Alia highlighted the paramount importance of agriculture to the state’s economic prosperity. He emphasized that the program’s inception is rooted in the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers and the transformation of rural communities.
“Benue State is an agricultural powerhouse, and our farmers are the backbone of our economy. It is imperative that we support them in every possible way to ensure increased yields, food security, and sustainable development,” Governor Alia proclaimed.
The Fertilizer Distribution Program is set to benefit a vast number of small-scale and large-scale farmers across the state. By offering subsidized fertilizer, the government aims to alleviate financial constraints that have previously hindered farmers’ ability to access essential agricultural inputs.
This landmark initiative has been met with overwhelming support from agricultural stakeholders, cooperatives, and farming communities. Many farmers expressed their gratitude, lauding the Governor’s visionary approach to agricultural development.
One farmer, Mr. James Akume, remarked, “We are grateful to Governor Alia for his proactive steps in helping us improve our yields and livelihoods. The subsidy on fertilizer will significantly reduce our costs and enable us to invest in other aspects of farming.”
