The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, announced a groundbreaking initiative requiring all students to register a company as a prerequisite for graduation. During a press briefing on the university’s achievements in the past four years, Prof. Na’Allah highlighted the institution’s focus on transforming the academic landscape, promoting industry collaboration, and enhancing learning opportunities.
In partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, the university has revamped its curriculum to empower students with practical skills in entrepreneurship. The aim is to equip them with the ability to establish their own companies rather than solely relying on government or corporate employment.
Prof. Na’Allah emphasized the significance of industry involvement in the learning process, with various companies actively engaging with students on campus. As a result of these efforts, over 1000 students have already registered their companies with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) while pursuing their studies. Some students even have the chance to practice their registered companies during their academic journey, with opportunities to apply their entrepreneurial skills.
The Vice Chancellor stressed that the university’s goal is not only to provide graduates with certificates for employment-seeking purposes but to instill a mindset of self-employment and wealth creation. He reaffirmed that it is now a mandatory policy for every student at the University of Abuja to have a registered company with CAC in order to graduate. Furthermore, students are encouraged to start their companies at least a year or two before completing their studies to foster practical experience and application of their entrepreneurial ventures.
