The Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers after its meeting on Thursday, 8th November, 2018 unanimously approved the appointment of former Idoma National Forum, Engr. Dr. Okopi Alex Momoh, FNSE, FNIMechE, FNIM as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
The momentous event took place after a request was placed before the Council by the NSE President, Engr. Adekunle O. Mokuolu, FNSE, asking it to consider the report of the New Executive Secretary Search Committee, and approve the appointment of the new Executive Secretary of the Society with effect from January 1, 2019 for a one–time renewable tenure of three (3) years.
Engr. Momoh a native Obotu, Ugboju-icho, Otukpo local government Area, Benue State emerge after a very keen and protracted contest for the coveted position.
By this appointment, Engr. Momoh will be overseeing the day- to- day running of the Secretariat of perhaps the largest engineering organizations in Africa.
Dr. Momoh is a well-grounded Mechanical Engineer and a product of the vintage and prestigious Government College, Keffi, and Kaduna Polytechnic. He holds 2 Masters degrees, the first in Industrial Engineering and Production Management from Cranfield Institute of Technology (now known as Cranfield University), United Kingdom, and another Master’s of Business Administration degree, from Bayero University, Kano, where he also obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in the year 2009.
To say the least, Dr Momoh has had a commendable dose of engineering practice experience. His work experience in diverse organization and designations are presented in the following chronological order:

vi. 1992-1994, Funtai Eng. Co., Ltd, Project – Coordinator for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Pipelines and Depots Project Phase III, Contract III
vii. 1995-1996, Zakhem International Construction Co. Ltd, Project Engineer for AS-Built documentation of Suleja and Minna Petroleum Products Depots facilities under the NNPC Pipelines and Depots Project Phase III, Contract III

Dr. Okopi Alex Momoh is a COREN Registered Engineer and member of several professional bodies, including his fellowship membership status with the Nigerian Society of Engineer, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered).
His versatile administrative experience spans over a period of three decades, and includes the following responsibilities which he discharged meritoriously.He was, Unit Head, Blast Furnace and Sintering Plant – Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd 1987 to 1988; Senior Superintendent Chipper House, Nigerian Paper Mill Limited Jebba.1988 –1990; Purchasing Manager / Head of Lagos Liaison office, Nigerian Paper Mill Ltd. Jebba. 1990 – 1991; Senior Manager Chipper House, Nigerian Paper Mill Ltd Jebba. 1991 – 1992; Project Coordinator, Fun Tai Engineering Company Ltd, 1992 to 1996; Managing Director, Samex Engineering Company Ltd 1996 to date; Dean, School of Industrial Engineering, College of Engineering, Kaduna Polytechnic, 2008 to 2012; 8th National Chairman, The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), 2007 to 2009; Coordinator of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer office, Kaduna Polytechnic, 2013 to 2017. Dr Okopi Momoh also provided a dynamic and progressive leadership for the foremost socio-cultural organization of the Idoma people of Nigeria as President, Idoma National Forum (INF) between 2012 to 2016.
As a field -tested engineering professional, and Managing Director of Brooks Cedron Nig. Ltd and SAMEX Engineering Company Ltd. respetively, Dr Momoh superintended various engineering projects in the oil and gas sector as an NNPC third party inspector. A listing of some of the projects are as follows; River Usuma Pipeline leakage Repair, Atlas Cove Depot Optimization Project, Rehabilitation of Ejigbo Depot PMS Tank II, New Atlas Cove Jetty Project, Construction of New Tank T-AC –12 for Atlas Cove Depot, Emergency De-Sludging, Cleaning, Slag Removal, Remediation and Inspection of Tanks 102 & 107 at Escravos Terminal, Dismantling and Reconstruction of Tank 13 and Rehabilitation of Tanks 11, 12,and 22 at Mosimi Depot, and Revamping of Atlas Cove Depot Facilities: Reconstruction of PMS Tanks 11 & 21 between the years 1998 and 2015.
Engr. Okopi Momoh is an engineer with a scholarly and intellectual twist; he never runs out of progressive ideas, as he most-often generates them with an element of spontaneity. He has a broad research experience, and is widely published in both national and international engineering journals, proceedings and transactions. He has provided an unrivaled opportunity for Nigerian Mechanical Engineers to publish and disseminate technical information in the Journal of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (JNIMechE), an initiative, he also ‘mid-wifed’ as the 8th NIMechE National Chairman about a decade ago, and still apply himself with much commitment as the Editor –in- Chief to date. Before this appointment, Dr. Momoh served the NSE in other various important capacities .
Dr Momoh is a recipient of a plethora of awards from the Nigerian Engineering Community. He enjoys volunteering, reading and spending quality time with his family and close-knit friends, and always willing to make his unbiased contributions to contemporary national issues.
